Horseshoe

The horseshoe is not just a fragment of metal tempered by fire: it is an ancient sign, a promise of good fortune.
Born to protect the hooves of horses, man's faithful companions in travel and battle, it soon transformed into an invisible shield against misfortune.

As early as the Middle Ages, it was said that iron, forged by fire and tempered on the anvil, held the strength of the elements. Its arc, resembling the crescent moon, evoked prosperity and rebirth. In many folk traditions, a horseshoe hung over a door warded off evil spirits, while worn as a talisman of protection and abundance.

MEANING:

  • Attracts luck and prosperity : considered a reminder of good fortune in love, work and daily life.
  • Strength and stability: It preserves the energy and resistance of the horse, man's travelling companion.
  • Generosity and abundance : with the tips pointing downwards, it pours good fortune on those who pass by or on those who carry it with them.

HISTORY :

It originated as a protection for the hooves of horses, essential companions of man since ancient times. Iron was a rare and precious material, and this alone gave it a "magical" aura.

It was forged by blacksmiths, who were once considered almost sorcerers for their ability to tame fire and transform metals. Hence the idea that iron had protective powers.

CURIOSITY :

The Legend of Saint Dunstan: In the Middle Ages, the English blacksmith Saint Dunstan is said to have chained the devil with a red-hot iron. He only released him after the devil promised never to enter a house with a horseshoe hanging on the door.
