One of the various legends tells that Lucia was a beautiful woman and much admired by men. When unfortunately her mother falls ill she decides to pray every day at the tomb of Saint Agatha until the miracle happens: her mother unexpectedly recovers.
After the miracle, the girl, in order to keep away the suitors and dedicate herself only to her faith, decides to tear out her eyes and throw them into the sea so as not to be tempted.
To reward her for her devotion, the Holy Virgin Mary restored her sight by giving her beautiful, bright eyes.
