The Turkish Eye, also known as Nazar Boncuk, is a traditional amulet found in Türkiye, Greece, and throughout the Middle East.
MEANING:
- Universal symbol of protection against the evil eye
- It is believed that his gaze "absorbs" and reflects negative energies, transforming them into balance and serenity.
- It brings luck, harmony and security to whoever wears it.
HISTORY:
In ancient times, there was a strong belief that people with light eyes (a rarity in some Mediterranean regions) were considered capable of involuntarily casting the evil eye, that is, glances full of envy or malice.
This is precisely why the idea of a protective amulet was born, to counteract these evils: the Eye of Allah or Turkish Eye.
One legend tells of a large boulder on the seashore that no man, not even with dynamite, could move. So, a villager known for his "heavy" gaze stopped to look at the rock and exclaimed, "What a big rock!"
At that precise moment, the boulder shattered into a thousand pieces. This event gave rise to the belief that a glance could have destructive power, and that a benevolent "eye" could counter it.
CURIOSITY:
In Türkiye, the Turkish Eye is also given as a gift to wish good luck to those embarking on a new path in life.
